A Federal High Court in Lagos has cleared former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, of all allegations in the prolonged N2.2 billion money laundering case brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

In a decision issued Tuesday morning, the court supported Fayose’s no-case argument, stating that the EFCC did not present sufficient evidence to require him to mount a defense.

Fayose underwent several years of legal proceedings related to accusations of money laundering and misuse of funds during his tenure as the governor of Ekiti State. Nonetheless, the court determined that the prosecution’s case lacked reliable evidence. “The prosecution did not connect the defendant to the claimed offenses in a way that justifies this court requiring him to present his defense,” the court stated.

Previously in the proceedings, the court had allowed Fayose to travel overseas for medical care, based on a different request.
