Two students have lost their lives and two others are undergoing treatment after being attacked by their peers at Government Secondary School, Bichi, in Kano State.
A post on Wednesday by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X, along with confirmation from the Kano State Police Command, reported that the unfortunate event took place late Sunday night.
The incident was reported to the police on Monday, July 15, by the school principal, Yusuf Ado Yakasai. He stated that around 11:30 p.m. on July 14, a group of older students reportedly enticed four peers, Hamza Idris (19, SS3B), Umar Yusuf (18, SS2C), Ibrahim Ibrahim (SS2B), and Aliyu M. Nasir (SS2C), into a hostel, where they were viciously assaulted for alleged participation in what was labeled as “unnatural offences.”
The victims were swiftly transported to Bichi General Hospital. Idris and Yusuf were declared deceased, while Ibrahim and Nasir are presently in the hospital and reported to be responding to their treatment.
Authorities stated that twelve individuals have been detained related to the event. They feature: Suleman Abdullahi, Ahmad Sanusi, Lawan Alasan Tambai, Aliyu Idris, Abubakar Abdulaziz (all from SS3A); Ibrahim Nura, Hamza Isiyaku (SS3B); Usaini Mamuda, Masaudu Idris, Yasir Murtala (SS3C); and
Abubakar Muhammad (SS3D).
The Kano State Police Command announced that an inquiry is underway and that individuals deemed responsible will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
