A final year Law student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Ajana Isabella, has tragically died, with her colleagues pointing accusing fingers at the hostel mistress for allegedly refusing to provide a spare key that would have allowed her access to life-saving diabetes medication.

Students of the institution are now demanding justice under the hashtag #Justice4Ajana.

According to accounts from her colleagues, Ajana Isabella, who resided at Elmada Hostel within the university environment, and her roommates reportedly lost their room key and required a replacement.

However, students allege that when they approached their hostel mistress, identified as Madam Bright, for a spare key, she adamantly insisted on payment for the spare, citing the hostel’s policy. The cost for the spare key was reportedly pegged at an exorbitant N120,000, meaning each of the three roommates would have to pay N40,000.

Despite pleas from the students that they could not afford the sum immediately, and with Ajana, who was known to be diabetic, desperately needing her insulin medications, their entreaties were allegedly ignored.

Ajana’s condition is said to have rapidly deteriorated until she collapsed on Sunday, July 6. She was subsequently rushed to the hospital but tragically passed away on Wednesday, July 9. The hashtag #Justice4Ajana is gaining traction as students call for accountability from the hostel management.
